Hiking Trail from Case Becco to Uscio: A Scenic Stroll Through Nature

Trail Information

Hiking Trail from Case Becco to Uscio: A Scenic Stroll Through Nature

Trail Information

  • Distance: Approximately 7 kilometers (one way)
  • Difficulty: Suitable for all levels
  • Terrain: The trail alternates between slightly uneven sections due to some loose rocks, semi-flat pedaled sections in the woods, and short sections with bumps to navigate.
  • Scenery: Immersed in nature with beautiful views.

Additional Resources:

This route takes you from Case Becco on Monte Cornua down a long descent, passing the beautiful Cappelletta degli Alpini and continuing to Calcinara. At the first intersection, turn right, cross the village, and reach the next intersection at Colle Caprile.

Instead of descending to Uscio (which you can do from here, even going as far as Recco), turn left. After the first curve, head uphill to the right on a steep but short climb that leads to the entrance of the Uscio Outdoor trails (alternatively, you can avoid the steep climb by continuing along the main road for a couple of curves. On the right, you'll find a gentler path that leads to the same spot).

Continue uphill on a path that starts with some paved sections and then becomes a dirt trail with loose rocks, leading you to a crossroads.

Going straight will take you towards "la Rapallina," a trail that alternates between rideable sections and others that are less so, eventually leading you to Colonia Arnaldi.

To the left (mountain side), there's a short half-kilometer trail through the woods that takes you back to the paved road, a few curves above where you entered the trails. This is called the Chiapparino Trail (check it out on YouTube!).

Instead, we'll take the right and enter the "Polveriera" trail:

Along the Polveriera trail, near a ruin on the right, you'll find a giant blue bench (you can see a glimpse of it in the YouTube video at 2:19), which was inaugurated on March 6, 2022.

Important: Pay attention to the final section of the trail, from this sign onwards. The path narrows, and as you pass alongside some houses, you need to moderate your speed to avoid encountering people.

The trail then emerges onto a secondary paved road. Going left will take you to Colonia Arnaldi, while going right will lead you back to the main road that connects Uscio to Colle Caprile.

Note: These trails are maintained by Uscio Outdoor. Follow their Instagram profile @uscioutdoor for updates and information.

Fontanabuona Valley Bike Tour: A Scenic Ride Through Ligurian Nature

The Fontanabuona Valley cycling route connects the inland Ligurian towns of Gattorna and Carasco, located in the province of Genoa near Rapallo. The trail is mostly dirt, but very well maintained, making it suitable even for bikes without knobby tires. There are occasional stretches of asphalt on low-traffic secondary roads.

This approximately 45-kilometer route is completely immersed in nature, offering a delightful and enjoyable ride. However, it does have sections with significant elevation changes. You'll cycle along the Entella River, through a natural oasis rich in flora and fauna. The lower section tends to be more crowded, but as you head towards the Fontanabuona Valley, the environment becomes wilder and less frequented, while still offering charming views and hidden gems such as the bamboo forest (the largest in Europe), the old bridge of San Salvatore, the meadows and groves along the river, and the old houses of the small hamlets on the left bank.

This long ride through nature is suitable for both adults and children, as everyone can choose their ideal route based on their preferences and abilities.
